Original Porcelain is porous and when a small thin layer wears out pores are exposed creating the discoloration from soap scum build up and near impossible to remove unless use harsh chemicals which removes another thin layer of porcelain & the discoloration process is repeated until the finish has completely dulled or worn out.
* To Clean & Maintain finished Tub *
- Use Only Regular Blue Windex, Lysol Tub/Tile Cleaner, mild Soap or Baking soda. Soft
Sponges and Soft Cloths to clean and dry.
- On occasion use Car Wax and Polishing products to protect surface. This will help
prevent soap scum from building up and keep a nice smooth shine finish. Use such as Mothers
Wax, Turtle, Meguiars, ...ETC.
- No more need to use harsh Chemicals or scrubbing!
** BE CAREFUL OF ANY TUBS OR SINKS ( RESTORED , REFINISHED , REGLAZED ) SELLING AT VERY LOW PRICES... THE PROPER MATERIALS USED TO RESTORE THEM ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND THE TIME IT TAKES TO PREP & REFINISH CAN TAKE MANY DAYS UP TO MANY WEEKS!

***PLEASE NOTE*** There are individuals on Craig's List trying to sell their tubs in the original condition. And although they claim that their tubs are in "excellent" condition, you need to realize that original condition is NOT excellent condition. Just because a tub doesn't have rust or chips does NOT make it in EXCELLENT condition. It is still going to show signs of wear over the last 100 years. It will likely be dingy, yellowed and dull compared to the bright, white and glossy appearance of a refinished tub. Send Me your questions.. WORD OF CAUTION: Whatever you do... DO NOT buy a claw foot tub w/ missing, broken or non-original feet!!! There are literally hundreds of different feet and they all fit just a bit differently on each tub. The curve of each tub is unique on the bottom and the feet attach in varying ways. Feet are not all interchangeable ... so if a tub has missing or broken feet ... don't buy it!
Regarding "SLIPPER" style tubs ( High Back )......the truth is that they were never antiques at all, they are just something someone thought up for the movies and decorating magazines. They were never produced 100 years ago and are just something that is manufactured today. Unfortunately, slipper style tubs along with other new antique looking tubs are generally made from acrylic fiberglass or cheap cast iron from china and in my opinion, they are horrible products. They tend to crack ( spider cracks ) , craze, discolor and stain easily. They are also extremely flimsy, light weight and don't retain heat at all like the early century cast iron tubs do. Acrylic or fiberglass tubs & sinks are cheap,usually foreign made and do not last. Even new cast iron clawfoot tubs are made with a very thin or cheap cast metal not like the thick casting on the tubs made back in the early to mid 1900s. They all carry a host of other issues as well. So if you have your heart set on a slipper style or any other new type tub rather than a traditional claw foot... you will most likely need to go the newer tub route.
So if you want a traditional custom restored genuine antique style claw foot tub, I can definitely help you with that!

It is heavy chrome plated brass with heavy chrome plated brass slip joint nuts. It has an extra long tub shoe and an extra long over flow tube so it fits new and old clawfoot tubs. The overflow face plate is heavy chrome plated brass and comes with a solid chrome plated brass escutcheon for the floor . It comes with a stopper and chain as shown. It is 1 3/8 tubing and comes with a 1 1/2 x 1 3/8 slip joint nut so you can use it on both 1 3/8 lines and 1 1/2 lines. That is a great help so you don't have to run around looking for the right parts. The overflow gasket and tub shoe gasket come with it. From the middle of the tub shoe to the middle of the tee is 10 inches and from the middle of the over flow plate (the screw hole ) to the middle of the tee is 17 inches.
..................And now for the Finishing touch.............offset bath supplies Sold in pairs. 1/2 OD X 24 1/2 long Includes supply tubes, connection nuts and washers. (clawfoot tubs have 3 3/8 center holes if it has holes) polished chrome plating, standard 1/2" OD tubing. It connects the straight stop to 3/4 inch faucets (clawfoot bathtubs faucet)
